Its leaves are elliptical and approximately 6 cm long in adults, with serrated edges. It has green leaves in spring and summer, and red leaves in autumn. It sheds its leaves in winter. Its capsule fruits are about 1 cm in size, but inconspicuous; its flowers bloom in May and are yellow.
