Carpinus betulus (European Hornbeam)

It sheds its leaves in winter. It has dense foliage. When young, it grows vertically and narrowly, maturing into a pyramid shape. It branches close to the ground level and exhibits horizontal branching. Its leaves turn yellow-brown in autumn. Shedding of its brown dry leaves can take time. It prefers moist and well-drained soil. It is resistant to pruning.
